Automotive master mechanics repair cars, trucks, buses, and other motor vehicles. Master mechanics are able to repair virtually any part of the vehicle or specialize in the transmission system.

Typical Work Activities

  • Examine materials to determine the scope and extent of vehicular damage.
  • Repair, adjust, reline, and replace brakes.
  • Determine cause of vehicle problems.
  • Test components and systems of a vehicle by using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
  • Follow a detailed checklist to make sure all parts of the vehicle are examined, including belts, spark plugs, steering systems, hoses, wheel bearings, etc.
