A woman shaking a man's handToday more than ever, people are looking for work. So when a prospective employer invites you for an interview, you want to stand out from the crowd.

By following a few simple tips, you can make a great impression on your potential employer. First, anticipate questions and spend time coming up with answers that show why you are the perfect person for the job.

Next, demonstrate that you are a great ‘fit’ through your professional demeanor. In particular, be courteous, respectful and demonstrate that you take the opportunity seriously.

Another part of making a good impression is personal appearance. It is important to be mindful of how you dress for your interview. Experts say that interviewers form an opinion within the first 30 seconds of meeting you. If that’s true, then it’s critical to dress for success.

Professional Attire
If it’s been a while since you worked or had an interview, you may not have “interview clothing” hanging in your closet. And if you haven’t been working, you may not have a lot of money to spend on a new outfit. But, don’t despair. Try visiting your local Goodwill or other stores that sell quality, gently used clothing at very affordable prices. Your community may also have an organization like Dress for Success or CareerGear, which provides interview attire for women and men, respectively.

If you are receiving assistance from a local organization in your job search efforts, be sure to let them know if you need  interview attire. They may be able to provide you attire directly or refer you to another organization that can provide assistance toward the purchase of a new outfit.
